Anyone who has ever sought treatment for a sick child at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland knows what an amazing place it is. Ranked among the best nationally, this leading pediatric medical and level-1 trauma center is a beacon of hope for the families who enter its doors. Founded in 1912 by Bertha Wright and Mabel Weed, CHO has fulfilled – and then expanded – on the two women’s mission to provide medical care for all babies and children.
In addition to treating more kids than any other pediatric hospital in the Bay Area, CHO is also a teaching and research facility with 300 scientists working on 150 clinical trials. Because its research center and hospital are in the same place, up-to-the-minute insights, trends and data go directly from the lab to the hospital, and vice versa. “Parents like me who have needed Children’s know how valuable it is,” says Lafayette resident Ellen Sullivan, whose son was treated successfully several years ago at CHO for a life-threatening brain tumor. “We know he received the best care available. The doctors and staff are remarkable.”
You’re likely familiar with CHO’s main hospital, rising directly off of Highway 24. But did you know that in addition to this location and its San Francisco outpost, CHO has ten off-site Specialty Care Clinics to better serve our children? Whatever your child’s need, CHO offers specialized treatment at these various off-site campuses, where care includes, but is not limited to, the disciplines listed below. We are so fortunate that this incredible facility is so easily accessible.
