Perhaps no other spot in Lamorinda reflects the area’s hometown feel better than the Lafayette Reservoir. This recreational gem has long served as our local gathering spot. Whether taking a solo hike on the 2.7 mile Lakeside Nature Trail, or trekking the challenging unpaved 4.7 mile Rim Trail, you’re sure to run into friends and neighbors. No more so than during the holidays, when families reunite and bond over a shared walk, often with pups in tow.
Many Lamorinda residents have fond childhood memories of time spent around the Reservoir – fishing from its shallow banks, maneuvering a paddle boat or scootering along the paved paths (Tuesdays and Thursdays only from noon until closing and on Sundays from opening until 11:00 a.m.). For those now away at college or living in far away places, a trip home to Lamorinda is not complete without a walk around the Lafayette Reservoir.
One of my favorite times to walk the Reservoir is during Thanksgiving when so many young people have returned home for the holiday. It’s fun to see the various collegiate sweatshirts worn by those who are walking with friends, parents and grandparents. These heartwarming visuals are a vivid illustration of Lamorinda’s powerful sense of community. A Reservoir walk always reminds me that here in Lamorinda, we have much for which to be thankful.
All of us at The Dana Green Team wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving.
