As 2013 came to a close, I did what I always do at the end of the year – I looked at the scope of my work for the year, ran statistics and considered what the numbers really said about trends in our local real estate market as a whole and about the direction my business is taking.
The 2013 news was good and my 2013 numbers were strong — and that renewed various accolades. I’m still #1 in Lafayette (2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008), #1 in Lamorinda (2013, 2012, 2011) and #1 in Contra Costa County (2013, 2012, 2011, 2010) based on dollar volume.
What means more to me, though, was that 2013 was a year of happy clients – happy sellers who sold their homes (on average) 9% over list price and happy buyers, many of which successfully competed in multiple offer situations.
As has always been the case, most of my 2013 transactions related to Lafayette homes. This is no surprise when you consider that I have lived in Lafayette all my life. Many transactions, though, involved homes in Moraga, Orinda and other nearby areas.
This year, though, I also noticed something really fun – homegrown, even.
Of the 62 transactions where I represented either buyer or seller, 23 were homes that feed into Burton Valley Elementary School.
I was born and raised in Burton Valley. I am a product of the original Burton School. I know first-hand what it means to grow up as part of this popular Lafayette neighborhood.
My wonderful childhood memories are some of the same memories kids growing up in Burton Valley are making today – riding my bike to school, endless swim team summers, lemonade stands, trick-or-treating, playing outside until dark, wonderful teachers and incredible neighbors who support each other.
I often tell people that the easiest way to understand Lafayette is to break it down into four quadrants – one for each of our wonderful elementary school districts. The differences among the four are both subtle and obvious – but important to understand so that you match the right neighborhood to your lifestyle needs. To help, I’ve created a gallery of neighborhood videos.
To better understand what makes Burton Valley so popular, I encourage you to start by watching our Burton Valley video and then sift my blog for the many blogs about the Burton Valley lifestyle.
