I had to smile yesterday when someone at the Broker’s Tour of 772 John Way said, “You must love the commute to this one.”
I have lived in Lafayette all my life, so my memories are everywhere here. It’s always fun, though, when I list a home in the Lafayette Woodlands, where I’ve lived with my family since 2001.
When we were ready to move to a larger family home, my husband and I did what many Lafayette homeowners do: We bought an older, Lafayette home in our dream neighborhood. We had been drawn to this, “mysterious” pocket of homes for years. There is something about driving in, under the umbrella of oaks, and popping out into this open, rural pocket filled with old-fashioned neighborhood charm. You quickly learn there is fantastic light, the constant buzz of children playing, dogs people call by name and an alluring sense of community and security.
We had an initial budget to repair items that could not be seen and a little left over to get creative and add cosmetic charm. We painted the original kitchen cabinets, along with everything else in the house, changed flooring and enjoyed the neighborhood for five plus years before we were able to make the changes desired. When the stars aligned, we had been patient and could finally undertake a larger-scale remodel that will carry us through the next generation of kids in the neighborhood.
The good news about 772 John Way is that it has already been loved and is turn-key for a new family. It has transformed over the years from its start as an early 1940’s cottage. In 1999, just prior to my clients purchasing the home, there was an extensive addition and remodel. The current owners came in and beautifully and very professionally created the gardens surrounding the home. Just prior to market, additional cosmetic updates were done. While I am sorry to see these well-loved neighbors move, I am honored to help them find their home’s new family.
Located off Moraga Road as you head towards Campolindo High School from downtown Lafayette, Lafayette Woodlands often falls under the home-search radar because homes in its circle of streets don’t come on the market very often and when they do, they sell quickly.
