You might be surprised how often we deal with roof related issues when preparing homes for sale or representing buyers in their home purchase. As with most home maintenance issues, the best way to avoid costly future repairs is ongoing attention and upkeep.
Roof Inspections
With all the talk of a big El Niño weather pattern coming later this year, now is the perfect time to examine your roof to determine what repairs must be made while it’s still hot and dry.
Eliminate a potentially disastrous problem before it starts by having a licensed roofing contractor inspect your roof prior to the rainy season.
They will be looking for blisters, curled or split shingles, sagging or loose nails, and any areas that appear to be noticeably damaged. Take a look at my BLACK Book list of trusted vendors and consider calling one of the roof experts to take a closer look!
Gutter Care
Also, October is a great time to start thinking about cleaning out your gutters. Keeping your gutters clean and free of debris is important to ensure that water stays away from your home’s exterior and foundation walls. If you haven’t done it since spring, it is time to get that ladder out before the rains begin! If you’re not up for the task yourself, take a look at my BLACK Book for a list of gutter vendors who can help (often roofing contractors, while making necessary roof repairs, will clean gutters too!)
