Sports and Our Community

The benefits to students of participating in high school sports are many. Physical activity is good for the body and the soul. Participation within a team fosters cooperative skills and helps to build self-confidence and self-esteem. Teamwork encourages leadership and social skills. And practice brings discipline. Student athletes often do better academically, as the determination and goal-setting skills required of a sport can be transferred to the classroom.

Each of Lamorinda’s three public high schools and Lafayette’s private Bentley School maintain excellent sports programs in which student athletes learn many life lessons such as commitment, sacrifice, and perseverance.  One need not be a parent or grandparent in order to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our high school’s various matches, games, and tournaments.

During the fall months, Acalanes, Campolindo, Miramonte and Bentley student athletes partake in cross country, girls volleyball, boys and girls water polo, girls golf, girls tennis, and football. LMYA’s fall sport for high schoolers is co-ed soccer. All are welcome to spectate at these matches, games, and races. Each is fun and spirited and if you crave a sense of community, there’s no better place to spend a few hours.

Check out the athletic schedules here, grab your bleacher seat or folding chair and go! My team and I will be right behind you.
