We are fortunate to live in an area with many great getaway opportunities close by. A night or two at any of these local gems will make you feel as relaxed and refreshed as if you’d taken off a whole week. And the best part? Each is a short drive away:
The Clement Hotel, Palo Alto: This is one of our favorite hotel secrets in the Bay Area. It’s across from the Stanford campus and home to visiting entrepreneurs and venture capitalists during the week, but on weekends, the rates dip and R&R guests receive the same impeccable service. Food and beverage is all-inclusive, including a freezer filled with ice cream for the kids, and craft cocktails for adults. Each room is a large suite that can fit a family of four. Relax by the rooftop pool and hot tub, check out the Rodin sculptures across the street, or walk to great shopping at Town & Country Village.
Lodge at the Presidio: The most recent renovated building in San Francisco’s picturesque Presidio is this brand new lodge where most rooms feature amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Enjoy complimentary evening wine and cheese by the cozy courtyard fire pit or on the old fashioned front porch as the kids run and play on the vast Main Parade Ground. A generous complimentary breakfast provides the fuel for hiking, biking, golfing, or touring the nearby Walt Disney Family Museum.
Rancho Caymus Inn, Rutherford: This newly remodeled boutique hotel in the heart of wine country features luxurious rooms and suites and a Spanish-style décor. Enjoy complimentary wine tasting Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings while the kids splash in the courtyard pool. A bountiful complimentary breakfast buffet features baked goods from Napa’s beloved Model Bakery. And the always popular Rutherford Grill is only a short stroll away.
The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe: With one of the best beaches on the lake, a large pool, and miles of hiking and biking trails, the Hyatt continues to be one of our favorite Tahoe hotels. Enjoy the water in a kayak or on a paddleboard, or relax in the sumptuous spa. Lone Eagle Grille, with its soaring picture windows, is one of the most popular gathering spots on the lake.
Sheraton Redding Sundial Bridge, Redding: Adjacent to a wonderful nature preserve and the iconic Sundial Bridge, this new hotel features a heated swimming pool and hot tub, a fitness center, and fun family amenities such as tents and sleeping bags which staff will set up in your room. S’mores kits can be purchased for the outdoor fire pit, and fishing poles are available for those hoping to reel one in on the Sacramento River. The adjacent Turtle Bay Exploration Park is fantastic – 300-acres of botanical gardens, an interactive museum, and a forestry and wildlife center filled with 64 different animal species. Take your bikes and pedal for miles on local trails.
